Cfci and Form The Future announce a joint initiative

The initiative seeks inspire more young people to pursue a career in the built environment

CFCI is working with Form the Future to encourage more children and young people to consider careers in construction. Together we can showcase the wide range of career opportunities, overturn biases and preconceptions and inspire more young people to pursue a career in the built environment.

Form the Future is an award-winning social enterprise that has worked with over 50,000 young people since 2015, preparing them for their future careers by connecting businesses with schools. They run events in schools using volunteers from industry who talk about their jobs and career journeys and help students learn about how they can follow in their footsteps. Some events help students develop skills like interviewing or preparing a CV. Form the Future also provides mentoring and helps schools with work experience.

If you or your colleagues want to get involved – and we hope you will – please register with Form the Future at

They are also running a series of events called EcoHub days run by Class of Your Own, who run the DEC training programme. Students work in teams of 10 to design an eco classroom and wildlife garden. They need volunteers representing different roles including architects, surveyors, landscape designers, construction business managers and facilities managers to assist the teams with their projects and to act as judges at the end.

Dates are being confirmed with schools but if you want to be involved, please let them know by emailing indicating which role you could fill. The more volunteers they have the more children can participate – and the more they will be starting on a path to a career in construction.

Finally, they are repeating a survey that was run two years ago by CFCI, so that they can learn more about your challenges with recruitment and identify how they can support you. Please look out for details shortly. Form the Future will share the results in a future newsletter and explore the topic further in a future seminar on skills.
